Another day, another universe...

About a month ago, we wrote a blog post about a few of the nominations in the Best Alternate Universe category. Today, it's time for part two!

Alternate universes are often confused with alternate realities, probably because outside of sci-fi alternate realities aren't very common - and if they are, they're usually called AUs. What makes a story an alternate universe then? Well, imagine your favorite characters stripped of everything except their personalities (there might be differences here based on different life experiences, though), get picked up and placed in a whole new sandbox! Suddenly, there is no Stargate, no Air Force and no aliens. Yet, there is still friendship, chemistry and in the case of our favorite ship - a whole lotta UST!Think... The Changeling, the origin of the very popular fireman!universe.

Don't worry if the differences aren't entirely clear yet - just take a look at remaining nominations in this category and see if you understand it after reading these fabulous stories!

The continuation of the Best Alternate Universe Category!

AU fics are defined as stories that are set in a completely different environment, like the firefighter universe from The Changeling.

Marriage is indeed a maneuvering business. Otherwise explained as SG1 goes Austen and wackiness ensues.

They came from two different worlds. To find each other, they only had to look beyond the stars.

Horses! Bandits! Saloons! It’s SG-1 in the 1890’s where O’Neill is a sheriff in a small Colorado town, and things get interesting when Jacob Carter and his daughter move there from Washington DC.

Can two people running from their past find peace, belonging and true love in a small town at Christmas time? When Sam Carter's car breaks down just outside a small Minnesota town full of crazy but loveable characters her unexpected holiday detour introduces her to Jack O'Neill, a man who is sorely in need of some Christmas cheer.

Jack is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with Carter so of course he wakes up in an alternate universe, which is strangely all too familiar.

And those, ladies and gentlemen, were the remaining nominations in the Best Alternate Universe category! We hope you enjoyed them and, more importantly, found a way to rank your favorites for voting! There's less than two weeks left, so don't forget to submit your ballot in time!
